Rico Taruc
Cable Moulding Supervisor, Singapore
As Cable Moulding Supervisor at NOR, Rico Taruc is responsible for the cable shop, where underwater cable assemblies are built, moulded and tested for offshore and subsea operations.
What the role involves
Rico’s work covers the full cable assembly process, from fabrication and moulding to testing and finishing. Each job can involve different specifications, materials, connectors and timelines, which makes the role both practical and varied.
One of the things Rico enjoys most is the pace and variety of the work, especially when several different cable assemblies need to be completed within a short timeframe.
“I enjoy building and finishing different types of cable assemblies for client requirements, especially when it has to be done in a short period of time.”

Most important skill
For Rico, soldering is one of the most important skills in his role. He also relies on the ability to think fast and find practical solutions when working with complex cable assemblies, where each detail needs to be handled with care.
Whether working with neoprene moulding, polyurethane moulding, overmoulding or in-line moulding, the goal is always the same: to deliver cable assemblies that are robust, reliable and ready for operation.
Career development
Rico was drawn to the industry because of the practical and hands-on nature of the work.
“I am not much of an office guy. I like the hands-on work.”
Since joining NOR, Rico’s role has developed from Cable Technician to Cable Moulding Supervisor. Today, he runs the cable shop, taking responsibility for daily operations, quality and supporting the team in delivering cable assemblies for different technical applications.

Work environment
Rico describes the work environment at NOR as:
Accommodating. Welcoming. Built on camaraderie.
For him, one of the best parts of working with the team is the willingness people have to help each other when needed. That sense of support is also one of the many reasons he is proud to be part of NOR.
“You feel like you are part of a family.”
Advice for someone starting out
Rico’s advice to anyone starting out in cable moulding is to be patient and focus on learning step by step.
“It is progression, not perfection.”
Outside of work
Outside of work, Rico enjoys watching movies, basketball and boxing. He also enjoys trying different kinds of food, especially in Singapore, where he says they are treated to plenty of good food.
