ASAMS System 12 Underwater MPI System

Diver Operated Underwater MPI System

Description

The ASAMS System 12 is a diver operated underwater magnetic particle inspection (MPI) system for shallow water and tidal water use. The system is self-contained and powered from a 12 V rechargeable battery unit, so no umbilical connection to the surface is required.

The ASAMS System 12 comprises a battery/control unit, a 12 V DC electromagnetic yoke and a UV lamp with an arc discharge bulb. Both the lamp and the yoke can be switched on and off by the diver, and the yoke has a sealed switch unit. The UV lamp reaches maximum UV output within 30 seconds of switching on.

The UV lamp has a stated UV output of 2.3MW at 450 mm, runs on 12 V DC with 35 W power consumption and weighs 4 kg in air. The yoke draws 2.5 Amps at 12 V DC, has a pull of 20 kg at 150 mm spacing and weighs 3 kg in air. The 12 V battery has a capacity of 12 Amp hour, 2 outputs (UV lamp and yoke/charger) and weighs 9 kg in air.

The pressure housings for the battery/control unit and the lamp are made of anodised aluminium alloy and pressure tested to a depth of 600 ft. An ink supply unit, air or lever operated with 0.5 / 1 litre capacity, is available as an option, and the ink supply can be incorporated into the handle of the UV lamp.
