R2 Sonic 2024 Wideband MBES 170 kHz & 450 kHz

Wideband Multibeam Echosounder 170–450 kHz

Description

The R2Sonic Sonic 2024 is a wideband multibeam echosounder (MBES) with operating frequencies selectable from 170 kHz to 450 kHz in steps of 1 Hz. R2Sonic lists the Sonic 2024 for autonomous surface vehicles (ASV), construction, dredging, offshore O&G (pipeline) and offshore wind farms (cable, towers).

The Sonic 2024 has a beamwidth (across × along track) of 0.45° × 0.9° at 450 kHz and 1° × 2° at 200 kHz, with up to 1024 soundings per ping. The swath sector is user selectable in real time from 10° to 160° and can be rotated on the fly. Sounding depth is up to 400 m+, ping rate up to 60 Hz, pulse length 15 µs–1 ms (shaped CW), bandwidth up to 60 kHz and bottom detect resolution 3 mm. Beams are roll stabilised, and sounding patterns are equiangular, equidistant, single/double/quad modes and Ultra High Density (UHD).

The Sonic 2024 consists of a receiver (480 × 109 × 190 mm, 12.9 kg), a projector (273 × 108 × 86 mm, 3.3 kg) and a Sonar Interface Module (280 × 170 × 60 mm, 2.4 kg) that supplies power to the sonar head and synchronises multiple heads. The system runs on 90–260 VAC, 45–65 Hz, with an average power consumption of 50 W and a 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet uplink/downlink. The standard immersion depth is 100 m, the operating temperature −10 °C to 50 °C, and the deck cable 15 m (25 m and 50 m optional).

Options for the Sonic 2024 include Ultra High Resolution (UHR) at 700 kHz with beamwidth down to 0.3° × 0.6°, 4000 m and 6000 m immersion depth rating (FLS projectors rated 3000 m instead of 4000 m), multimode (pipeline and multispectral), TruePix water column and backscatter imagery, raw water column data output, switchable forward looking sonar imagery, I2NS integrated inertial navigation and antifouling coating (all optional). R2Sonic states that its MBES exceed IHO-S44 Special Order when installed according to the manual and used with the R2Sonic I2NS and sound velocity sensor.
