Applied Acoustic 219 Micro Beacons
Micro Acoustic Tracking Beacon
Description
The Applied Acoustic Model 219A Micro Beacon is a small acoustic tracking beacon for shallow water environments, confined spaces and applications that do not require a high level of power output. Its slim profile allows use by divers, on eyeball ROVs, on small side-scan towfish and for taut wire applications. The beacon is compatible with Easytrak and the other tracking systems listed in the datasheet, and can be supplied with a remote transducer (optional).
The Model 219A has a hard anodised aluminium housing with a diameter of 50 mm and a length of 248 mm, a survival depth of 600 m and a weight of 700 g in air and 280 g in water. It has a ±90° beam pattern and an SPL of 180 dB. The transmit frequency range is 25–32 kHz and the receive frequency range is 16–26 kHz, with a turn around time of 15/30/60 ms and a transmit pulse width of 1.5/10 ms, dependent on channel. Survival depth to 4000 m is available as an option (optional).
The Model 219A is powered by 2 × 9 V user-replaceable, non-rechargeable 550 mAh alkaline batteries (PP3/6LR61/Duracell MN1604 or equivalent). Listening life is 30 days, and operational life is 30 hours at 1.0 pps, dependent on pulse rate. The beacon works in transponder mode with Easytrak (8 channels), Simrad HPR300 (14), Simrad HPR400 (14 + 56), Simrad HiPAP (56), Sonardyne USBL (14), ORE Trackpoint II (any within band) and ORE LXT (code 2–5), and can operate as a pinger (any within band @ 2 pulses per second) or an emergency pinger (37.5 kHz @ 2 pulses per second).
The same datasheet also lists the Applied Acoustic Model 229A Micro Beacon, which has a 183 dB SPL, a length of 310 mm, a survival depth of 3000 m, a weight of 820 g in air and 330 g in water, 4 × 9 V batteries, 60 days listening life and 30 hours operational life at 1.0 pps.
