EdgeTech 3100P Sub-Bottom Profiler
Portable Sub-Bottom Profiler System
Description
The EdgeTech 3100P is a portable sub-bottom profiler system that uses EdgeTech's Full Spectrum CHIRP technology to image the sub-bottom structure. The EdgeTech 3100P is designed for use from smaller boats in rivers, lakes, ponds and shallow water ocean applications, and the towfish has a max depth rating of 300 m.
The EdgeTech 3100P is supplied with one of two towfish. The SB-424 towfish operates at 4–24 kHz with 4–8 cm vertical resolution and penetration of 2 m in coarse calcareous sand and 40 m in clay, and weighs 45 kg in air and 18 kg in water. The SB-216S towfish operates at 2–16 kHz with 6–10 cm vertical resolution and penetration of 6 m in coarse calcareous sand and 80 m in clay, and weighs 76 kg in air and 32 kg in water. According to the datasheet, the SB-424 gives slightly higher resolution but less penetration than the SB-216S.
Along with the towfish, the EdgeTech 3100P comes with a portable splash-proof topside processor in a rugged enclosure and a laptop computer running EdgeTech DISCOVER software for display of the sonar data; a splash-proof/ruggedised laptop is optional. The system comes standard with a 35 m tow cable, with customer-specified lengths available, and runs on AC or DC power. The topside processor has an Ethernet I/O, archives to DVD-R/W and supports the JSF, SEG-Y and XTF file formats, and a pole mount is available as an option for shallow water surveys.
Applications listed for the EdgeTech 3100P include geological surveys, geohazard surveys, buried object location, mining/dredging surveys, bridge/shoreline scour surveys and pipeline and cable location.
