EdgeTech 3400 Sub-Bottom Profiler
Towed or Pole-Mount CHIRP Sub-Bottom Profiler, 2-16 kHz
Description
The EdgeTech 3400 is a wideband Frequency Modulated (FM) sub-bottom profiler utilizing EdgeTech’s Full Spectrum CHIRP technology. The EdgeTech 3400 generates high resolution images of the sub-bottom stratigraphy in oceans, lakes and rivers, and comes in a dual 2-16 kHz transducer configuration with a vertical resolution of 6-10 cm. Typical penetration is 8 m in coarse calcareous sand and 100 m in clay.
The EdgeTech 3400 towfish is configured with PVDF receiver arrays segmented for standard sub-bottom profiling operations or a “pipeliner” mode for location and imaging of buried pipelines. The system offers real-time reflection coefficient measurements for measuring sediment reflection and analyzing sediment type, and its discrete transmit and receive channels allow continuous data collection. Real-time pitch, roll, heave and depth sensors, surface echo attenuation and a pulse library for different survey applications are included.
The EdgeTech 3400 towfish can be towed behind a vessel or pole mounted over the side of the vessel. The towed towfish measures 114 x 55 x 30 cm, weighs 90 kg in air and 53 kg in water and has a depth rating of 100 m; in pole mounted configuration it measures 114 x 55 x 39 cm and weighs 84 kg in air and 47 kg in water. The system comes as a complete package with towfish, cable and a portable or rackmount topside processor running EdgeTech’s DISCOVER sub-bottom acquisition and processing software, with data in native JSF, SEG-Y and XTF formats.
