EdgeTech 4125i Dual Frequency Side Scan Sonar
Dual Frequency Side Scan Sonar
Description
The EdgeTech 4125i is a dual frequency side scan sonar system designed for search and recovery (SAR) and shallow water survey work. The EdgeTech 4125i uses EdgeTech's Full Spectrum CHIRP technology and operates two frequencies simultaneously from a stainless steel towfish.
Two frequency sets are available for the EdgeTech 4125i. The 400/900 kHz towfish has an operating range of 150 m at 400 kHz and 75 m at 900 kHz, with across-track resolution of 2.3 cm at 400 kHz and 1.0 cm at 900 kHz. The 600/1600 kHz towfish has an operating range of 120 m at 600 kHz and 35 m at 1600 kHz, with across-track resolution of 1.5 cm at 600 kHz and 0.6 cm at 1600 kHz. Horizontal beam width is 0.46° at 400 kHz, 0.28° at 900 kHz, 0.33° at 600 kHz and 0.20° at 1600 kHz, and vertical beam width is 50°.
The EdgeTech 4125i towfish is 9.5 cm in diameter and 112 cm long, weighs 20 kg in air and has a max depth rating of 200 m. Heading, pitch, roll and pressure (depth) sensors are standard. The towfish can be used with a coaxial tow cable of up to 600 m max length, which gives a typical operational depth down to 200 m, and the system includes a safety recovery system intended to prevent loss of the towfish if it becomes snagged on an obstacle.
A standard EdgeTech 4125i system comes with the towfish, a portable water-resistant topside processor including a laptop computer and a 50 m Kevlar tow cable, delivered in portable rugged cases. The topside processor runs on 12–24 VDC or 115/230 VAC, 50/60 Hz, connects to the laptop over Ethernet and uses EdgeTech DISCOVER acquisition software on Windows 7 and Windows 10. Options include a splash-proof/ruggedised laptop, keel weight, v-fin depressor wing, pole mount and quick change hull scan bracket. Listed applications are hydrographic surveys, geological surveys, search and recovery, channel/clearance surveys, bridge/pier/harbour wall inspection and hull inspections.
