ROV Launch and Recovery Latch, 5 t SWL
Description
The Midi Latch is a lock-latch for launch and recovery of work ROVs up to 5 tons, and other equipment carrying a messenger line. It attaches to and detaches from the tether through a cable entrance door, and latches onto its termination bullet sliding on the umbilical, even at angles down to 30° above horizontal.
The latch releases in water when a medium-sized Grimsby float is attached to the release lever, or by using a release line. The latch and termination bullet are delivered as a certified pair, designed according to DNV Rules for Certification of Lifting Appliances, and the bullet can be tailored to the equipment.
Safe working load is 5 ton with a dynamic factor (DAF) of 3. The latch weighs 42 kg in air, is made of aluminium 6082T6 and stainless steel, and takes umbilicals or tethers up to 50 mm diameter. It is the medium size in a range of latches from 0 to 12 tons SWL.
