Innomar Compact Sub-Bottom Profiler
Parametric Shallow-Water Sub-Bottom Profiler
Description
The Innomar Compact is a parametric sub-bottom profiler from Innomar's range of shallow-water models. The Innomar Compact operates in water depths of 0.5–400 m below the transducer and achieves sediment penetration of up to 40 m, depending on sediment type and noise. According to the datasheet, Innomar's parametric sub-bottom profilers can work in water depths of less than one metre and can be mobilised on vessels of opportunity or autonomous platforms.
The Innomar Compact transmits primary frequencies (PHF) of c. 100 kHz (frequency band 85–115 kHz) at a source level of >238 dB//µPa re 1m and c. 2.3 kW acoustic power. The secondary low frequency (SLF) centre frequency is user selectable at 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 or 15 kHz within a 2–22 kHz total band, using Ricker or CW pulses with a user selectable pulse width of 0.07–1.0 ms (CW). The transmit beam width (−3 dB) is c. ±2° for all frequencies, giving a footprint of c. 7 % of water depth, and the ping rate is up to 40 Hz.
Sample/range resolution of the Innomar Compact is <1 cm / up to 5 cm depending on pulse settings, and depth accuracy is (2 cm @ 100 kHz / 4 cm @ 10 kHz) + 0.06 % of water depth. Heave compensation is provided, depending on external sensor data. Data is acquired at digital 16 bit / c. 70 kHz (SLF full waveform, PHF envelope) and recorded in the Innomar RAW (16 bit) format, with SEGY available via SESconvert, and bottom detection uses internal PHF and SLF data or an external depth input.
The Innomar Compact topside unit (transceiver) is a ½ 19" / 4U unit measuring W 30 cm × D 40 cm × H 20 cm and weighing c. 15 kg. The transducer measures W 34 cm × D 26 cm × H 8 cm, weighs c. 22 kg including 20 m cable and has a transducer depth rating of surface. The system runs on 100–240 V AC, with an optional external DC power inverter (12/24 V), and power consumption is <150 W. Control and data storage use an external PC or laptop (MS Windows 10/11 OS), which is not included; external sensor interfaces are HRP (motion), GNSS position and depth (all RS232 / UDP) and trigger (BNC), and remote control is via basic functions over COM or Ethernet (UDP), NMEA.
