Innomar Medium-100 Sub-Bottom Profiler

Parametric Sub-Bottom Profiler

Description

The Innomar Medium-100 is a parametric sub-bottom profiler from Innomar's high-power model range, which uses larger transducers with increased source levels and lower frequencies for better penetration. The Innomar Medium-100 operates in water depths of 2–2,000 m below the transducer and achieves sediment penetration of up to 70 m, depending on sediment type and noise. According to the datasheet, the Medium-100 is available as a portable device for small boats and USV installations.

The Innomar Medium-100 transmits primary frequencies (PHF) of c. 100 kHz (frequency band 85–115 kHz) at a source level of >247 dB//µPa re 1m and c. 5.5 kW acoustic power. The secondary low frequency (SLF) centre frequency is user selectable at 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 or 15 kHz within a 2–22 kHz total band, using Ricker, CW or LFM chirp pulses with a user selectable pulse width of 0.07–1.0 ms (CW) or 3.5 ms (chirp). The transmit beam width (−3 dB) is c. ±1° for all frequencies, giving a footprint of c. 3.5 % of water depth, and the ping rate is up to 40 Hz.

Sample/range resolution of the Innomar Medium-100 is <1 cm / up to 5 cm depending on pulse settings, and depth accuracy is (2 cm @ 100 kHz / 4 cm @ 10 kHz) + 0.02 % of water depth. Heave and roll compensation are standard, depending on external sensor data. Data is acquired and recorded at digital 24 bit / 96 kHz (SLF full waveform, PHF envelope) in the Innomar SES3 (24 bit) format, with SEGY available via SESconvert, and bottom detection uses internal PHF and SLF data or an external depth input.

The Innomar Medium-100 topside unit (transceiver) is a 19" / 9U unit measuring W 52 cm × D 40 cm × H 44 cm and weighing c. 44 kg, with an integrated PC (MS Windows 10/11 OS) and a 10" TFT display. The transducer measures W 50 cm × D 50 cm × H 12 cm and weighs c. 60 kg including 30 m cable. The system runs on 100–240 V AC with power consumption of <400 W, interfaces to external HRP (motion), GNSS position and depth sensors (all RS232 / UDP) and a trigger (BNC), and supports remote control via KVM or basic functions over COM or Ethernet (UDP), NMEA. Innomar lists applications for its high-power models including oil and gas, reconnaissance and route surveys, scientific programmes and deep sea drilling campaigns.
