Kongsberg EA 440 Single Beam Echosounder
Hydrographic Wide Band Single Beam Echosounder
Description
The Kongsberg EA 440 (EA440) is a hydrographic wide band single beam echosounder developed for hydrographic use in shallow to medium depth waters. The EA440 also supports portable and hull mounted sidescan and sub-bottom applications for shallow waters.
The standard 4-channel Wide Band Transceiver (WBT) of the EA440 transmits and receives simultaneously on 4 channels from 10 kHz to 500 kHz, and the channels can be configured for different applications or redundancy. The EA440 covers hydrographic depth observations from 30 kHz to 500 kHz, sidescan sonar from 100 kHz to 500 kHz and sub-bottom profiling from 10 kHz to 30 kHz, for applications from 0.2 m to 3000 m water depth. CW and FM pulse forms are supported, with a ping rate of max 40 per second and a precision of 0.3 cm at 500 kHz (CW 32 to 512 µs) to 9.8 cm at 10 kHz (CW 1 to 16 ms).
The WBT communicates over Ethernet with a Windows 10 computer running the EA440 software, and several WBTs with different configurations can be used. Transducers are enabled through license management, with license codes provided by Kongsberg Maritime Support, and both Kongsberg and third-party transducers can be interfaced. The EA440 accepts GPS, gyro, motion, speed, temperature and sound speed sensor inputs, outputs NMEA (DBS, DBP, DPT), Simrad, Atlas and Hymas, and exports raw data, XTF, SEG-Y, XYZ, echogram, EA400, marker and parameters. The EA440 map view shows the vessel, vessel tracks and sidescan coverage on user-supplied WMS or GeoTIFF maps, and all raw sample data, including external sensor data, is stored internally for replay.
The EA440 WBT measures 438 × 213 × 84 mm (W × D × H), weighs 5 kg, has an IP42 rating and requires 12 to 15 VDC, 5 A, with a power supply for 220/110 VAC operation provided with the delivery. The EA440 operates at 0 to 50 °C, can be stored at −40 to 70 °C and handles relative humidity of 5 to 95 %, non-condensing. The datasheet also covers the EA440SP splash proof version, with an 11 kg unit, an IP56 suitcase when closed and an IP65 rugged PC.
