MPT 319/DTR
Multifunction Positioning Transponder, 1000 m
Description
The Kongsberg Maritime MPT 319/DTR is a medium frequency Multifunction Positioning Transponder (MPT) in the SPT & MPT 31x series, rated to 1000 m, for HiPAP and HPR underwater positioning and navigation systems. The MPT can be operated in both Super-Short Base Line (SSBL) and Long Base Line (LBL) modes, and all required telemetry functionality is built in. In the model name, 3 stands for the 30 kHz band, 1 for a 1000 m depth rating, 9 for ±90° beamwidth, DT for depth and temperature sensors and R for release mechanism.
The MPT 319/DTR has 56 channels for HiPAP / HPR systems and can also be used by the HPR 309 / 310 and former models with the original 14 channels. Source level is max 188 dB (±90°, 4 steps, rel. 1 μPa ref. 1 m), Rx sensitivity is max 100 dB rel. 1 μPa (2 steps), and the frequency bands are Rx 21.000–24.500 kHz, telemetry 25.000–26.500 kHz and Tx 27.000–31.500 kHz. The DT sensor measures depth to 1000 m with ±1 m accuracy and 0.1 m resolution, and temperature over −10 to +40 °C with 0.2 °C accuracy and 0.1 °C resolution. The release mechanism has a maximum release load of 225 kg and a release battery for 400 releases.
The /R and DTR versions weigh 27 kg in air and 11 kg in water, with an overall length of 1470 mm, a housing diameter of 131 mm and a clamping ring diameter of 171 mm. The aluminium housing has a polyurethane coating, and the operating temperature is 0 to +30 °C. Power comes from a lithium battery L10/36 (18/30), which can be replaced by an alkaline or a rechargeable battery with battery charger; external power is optional.
The transponder can be secured to a subsea structure with mounting brackets, or fitted with an anchor weight and floating collar (type 119-086872, rated to 1000 m) for location on the open seabed, and is designed for ROV manipulator handling. Applications listed include dynamic position reference, navigation of underwater vehicles and towed bodies, positioning and re-entry of BOPs, riser and BOP angle monitoring, and use as a position or master-slave transponder in an LBL array.
