Kongsberg MS 1000 Scanning Sonar

Scanning Sonar Processor

Description

The Kongsberg MS 1000 is a Windows-based sonar processor that turns a standard PC into a full-function scanning sonar system, without the need for additional boards or hardware. It controls Kongsberg Mesotech’s digital line of scanning sonar, altimeter and bathy sensor products through industry-standard telemetry, and can run several sonar heads and altimeters at the same time.

Range is adjustable from 5 to 500 m, sector width from 7.2° up to a full 360°, and sector centre in 0.9° steps. Ping synchronization allows multiple-head operation with a fused data display for dual head profiling, and 3D profiling is possible with a pan device.

All sonar and sensor inputs can be time-tagged and recorded to the PC’s hard drive or an external device, with bitmap snapshots and GeoTiff export. Measurement tools include annotation, cursors, tape measure, target area and target height. The Track Plotter module lets the operator pre-plot search and survey lines and geo-reference sonar targets using NMEA 0183 navigation input.

A typical system consists of a PC running MS 1000, the sonar head, and an optional USB converter and power supply. A plug-and-play USB keypad, networking and target tracking are also available.
