PC-2 ROV Push Corer

ROV Sediment Coring Device

Description

The PC-2 ROV Push Corer is an ROV-operated sediment coring device for obtaining sediment cores in shallow or deep water. Each push corer consists of a Perspex tube, a one way valve and an ROV T-bar handle, and comprises two separate parts: the core tube with T-bar and the corer housing. Operating the corer from an ROV allows multiple cores to be taken from targeted locations with specific seabed types or habitats, for biological, physical or chemical analysis.

A one way valve at the top of the sample chamber lets water escape as it is replaced by the sediment core. After removal from the sediment, the sample is returned to its housing, where a tapered rubber plug at the base seals the sample within the assembly. On recovery to the surface, the T-bar and valve are removed, and the core with its rubber plug is taken out of the housing by a twist fitting at the base.

The PC-2 ROV Push Corer is made of non corrosive stainless steel and plastic materials (ABS, PVC glass, stainless steel and rubber) and is pressure balanced. It has a maximum operation depth of 6000 m, an overall length of 480 mm including the T-bar, a core length of 78 mm and a core volume of 2.47 L. One corer weighs 2.5 kg in air, and the complete unit weighs 25.0 kg in air.
