PC-1 ROV Push Corer
ROV Sediment Coring Device
Description
The PC-1 ROV Push Corer is a sediment coring device operated by ROV to obtain sediment cores in shallow or deep water, with a max operation depth of 6000 m. ROV operation allows multiple cores to be taken from targeted locations with specific seabed types or habitats, for biological, physical or chemical analysis.
The PC-1 push corer consists of a Perspex tube, a one-way valve and an ROV T-bar handle, in two parts: the core tube with T-bar and the corer housing. The one-way valve at the top of the sample chamber lets water escape as it is replaced by the sediment core. After sampling, the core is returned to its housing, where a tapered rubber plug at the base seals the sample. At the surface, the T-bar and valve are removed, and the core with its rubber plug is taken out of the housing by a twist fitting at the base.
Materials are ABS, PVC glass, stainless steel and rubber, and the corer is pressure balanced. Weight in air is 1.5 kg for the corer and 20 kg complete. Overall length including T-bar is 280 mm, core length is 55 mm and core volume is 0.665 L. Handle options are T-bar or D-bar.
