Model 803 ROV Current Meter
ROV Electromagnetic Current Meter
Description
The Valeport Model 803 ROV Current Meter is a 2 axis electromagnetic current meter that gives ROV pilots relative through water speed data in real time. It can be fitted directly on an ROV to give vehicle through water speed, or on the Tether Management System (TMS) to measure local flow conditions, and is supplied with a 4000 m rated titanium housing as standard.
The sensor measures water velocity in 2 axes across the sensor surface and updates the data at 1 second intervals (1 Hz default), giving X axis flow across the vehicle and Y axis flow into the vehicle. Range is ±10 kts / ±5 m/s, accuracy is ±0.02 kts / 0.01 m/s + 1 % of reading and resolution is 0.01 kts / 0.001 m/s. Units are knots as standard, with m/s as an option.
Digital output is RS232 or RS485 (internally set) at 19200 baud default, and analogue output is −5 to +5 V for each channel, with 0–5 V or 0–10 V available (optional). Update rate and output format can be changed through a terminal program. The system is supplied with licence free ROVLog PC software for display and logging of data.
The sensor is an 11.5 cm discus EM sensor made from polyurethane with titanium mounting, and should be mounted in clear flow on the ROV or TMS. The instrument measures 76 mm Ø × 350 mm, weighs 3.5 kg in water, runs on 7–29 V DC at 2 W nominal and has an 8 way SubConn BH8M connector. Part 0803002 is supplied with pigtail/setup lead, USB adapter, operating manual and transit case.
