Description
The Forum Energy Technologies Torque Tool 17H is an ROV torque tool for ISO 13628-8 Fig 14 (API 17H) interfaces, developed by Forum Energy Technologies (UK) LTD. It has integral torque and turns counting sensors for closed loop control. When matched with a NOR-supplied torque tool control manifold, the Torque Tool 17H gives feedback on the torque response of the subsea operation. The FORUM Universal Subsea Display gives a visual read-out of live torque feedback and a turns counter.
The torque range of the Torque Tool 17H is 540–2700 Nm (400–2000 ft lbs) with the gearbox fitted and 108–540 Nm (80–400 ft lbs) in direct drive. For torques below 108 Nm (80 ft lbs), the datasheet recommends the class 1&2 tool. The tool has a 236 cc motor and uses Tellus 22/32 hydraulic oil. Torque output stays consistent when the tool is used with direct hydraulic pressure control without the feedback sensor.
Latching wings hold the Torque Tool 17H on the interface and release if hydraulic power is lost. The motor shares casing oil with the gearbox, so no separate compensator is needed. The sensors are a dual sensor inductive turns count sensor and an internal strain gauge, with an 8 pin Burton electrical connector. The Torque Tool 17H weighs 45 kg in air and 35 kg in water and is supplied in an offshore-suitable transit case.
