Valeport Midas SVX2

Combined Sound Velocity and CTD Profiler

Description

The Valeport MIDAS SVX2 combines a sound velocity profiler and a CTD in one titanium instrument, giving direct sound velocity data together with salinity and density. It is fitted with Valeport's digital time of flight sound velocity sensor, a high stability conductivity sensor, a temperature-compensated piezo-resistive pressure transducer (0.01 %) and a fast response PRT temperature sensor.

All sensors are sampled at the same instant through distributed processing. Sound velocity is measured over 1375–1900 m/s with ±0.02 m/s accuracy, conductivity over 0–80 mS/cm with ±0.01 mS/cm, and temperature over −5 to +35 °C with ±0.01 °C. Sampling modes are continuous (1, 2, 4 or 8 Hz), burst, trip/profile, conditional and delay, with 16 Mb memory for more than 980,000 data points in profile mode.

The instrument runs autonomously or in real time over RS232 (up to 200 m cable) or RS485 (up to 1000 m), with FSK for up to 6000 m cable as an option. It is rated to 6000 m, depending on the pressure sensor (300 or 600 bar), runs on 8 × C cells or 9–30 VDC, and weighs 11.5 kg in air and 8.5 kg in water in its cage.
